Sara Z. Phelps (she/her) is a queer writer from Southern California. A former Buddhist nun, her work explores gender, sexuality, illness, desire, devotion, power, and control. Sara graduated summa cum laude from UC Davis, where she received the Leon H. Mayhew Award for outstanding achievement in the humanities and service to the university. A 2025 Tin House Summer Workshop Scholar, Sara’s work has also been supported by Ragdale, the Vermont Studio Center, and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts.
